What do Black gay men want when it comes to finding relationships? It’s the central question Atlanta gay dating coach and matchmaker Lamont White will work to answer in his new video series “The Gay Man’s Guide To Dating.” The five-part series will launch in July on CNPTVs YouTube channel

White has already given viewers a sneak peek of the upcoming content with the early release of “Is Kevin Samuel’s Advice Good for Gay Men?—” a controversial public figure who is only rivaled by his even more patriarchal and misogynistic dating approach. Spoiler alert: White says Samuel’s advice is not good for gay men.

But White is convinced that popular gay dating apps like Jack’d and Grindr can facilitate the dating experience that leads to a long-term commitment that many Black gay men desire.

“I have the belief that you can find love on Jack’d and Grindr. I have a video about how you do it successfully,” says White, who expounded on his belief in The Reckoning earlier this year.

“If you tell a different story about who you are on Grindr, on Jack’d, you will get something different,” he says. “I tell guys if you want to find a guy on Grindr or Jack’d, great, put your face picture out there. Put a couple of pictures of who you are and what you like to do for fun. Frame your content as to who you are, what you like, and what you’re looking for. Don’t say what you don’t want. Say what you want and talk about who you are.”

White says all the videos will be “solution-focused.” He also plans to tackle ghosting and how you can prevent yourself from being on the receiving end, as well as the tools you’ll need to navigate the new dating landscape post-COVID.

“If you look at some of the dating profiles, guys used to say disease and drug-free, now they're saying vaccinated, it's the new thing,” he says.

White is the founder of Better Way To Meet, an Atlanta-based gay dating service that launched in 2014. He holds a master’s degree in professional counseling and provides therapy to single gay men and couples through his company. He is married to Art White. The couple lives in Atlanta and is co-parenting their two nephews.
